Two neat things about today…

We get our first fish patient today, a Betta fish. Should be most interesting I’m interested to see what the exam is like.
I also got my first real hands on bird experience. An owner dropped in with their 18 week old Moluccan Cockatoo, and we squeezed them in during other appointments. I went and gawked a bit, and then while I was out front suddenly A walks out and puts Lu Lu on my shoulder. *Surprise!*
Dude!
It’s my first intimate experience with a bird that is neither A) Wild nor B) Wants to Eat Me. I love the big birds, and the little ones are cute too. But here is this loving sweet thing sitting on my shoulder, just hanging out. Then she* finds my glasses. I get her to stop trying to steal my glasses, and she goes for my hair clip – which is fine. It’s big and plastic, and she isn’t likely to hurt it or herself. It’s interesting how warm and soft they are, and how little you can tell about what they are doing up there. And all you can see is (in this case salmon colored) feathers out of the corner of your eye. Then she settles for a minute and does the fluffy thing. Then we’re back to the glasses. Getting her distracted, she turns her head upside down and sees the earring. Instantly, that is much more interesting, and small enough for her to eat. So I’m getting her off my earring and J comes and says, “Here let me rescue you.” So off Lu Lu goes and I go back to work, birdless.
She was so cute.
And a great first experience I have to say.
*She, being pure speculation at this point. The blood test goes out tomorrow.
