Here is an actual recipe for Bagna Cauda. (Bunyacowda) It's one of the focus background threads on an episode of B5 second season. The doctor puts everyone on a "food plan" (not diet) and they all hate it. It's also Garibaldi’s birthday, and making Bagna Cauda is a ritual of family and honoring his father. Every time I see that episode, I wondered if it was a real dish, and if I could find a recipe. I watched it yesterday, and today [livejournal.com profile] rhienelleth posted about good quality olive oil and I finally remembered to look it up. He described it as "Sort of Italian fondue" and that's how I found it. The ingredients also match. So with no further ado, I give you...

BAGNA CAUDA (ITALIAN FONDUE)

6 to 8 cloves garlic
2 cubes butter
2 sm. jars olive oil
2 tins anchovies
Vegetables
Seafood
Steak
French bread sticks for dipping

Mix or press garlic into shallow fondue or electric fry pan. Add butter and oil. Cook on low until garlic is soft, but not brown. Add anchovies; simmer until anchovies almost disappear. Meanwhile, slice bread thickly and set aside. Skewer veggies (mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.), scallops, shrimp, and steak (cubed) or anything you want to dip. Simmer 1 to 3 minutes. Use bread as bed to soak up juices as eaten.

Ironically I don't think I'd eat it because of the anchovies, but since they are a fish I've never knowingly tried, I don't know if it has the "tastes like bad fish smells" problem. (Weird thing I've got going. I know, I know how many can one person have? A lot, apparently.)

Did anyone else get the description of 3rd life the new episode that was supposed to air, but actually saw an old episode (the first new guy one with the "have you seen me" posters and masks episode)?

Of course the follow up question, is did anyone actually get the new episode and if so, can I get a copy?

So I finally finished Alias.

I have a few issues, mostly similar to yours (all hail LJ tags!) The new girl got all the good lines from strappy shoes to cuddling. :)

Bob of course was the most awesome thing ever!

Behind the cut for Spoilers )

Anyway, it was pretty good, even with it's somewhat blatant flaws and at least it had an end.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] rhienelleth!

Yeah we've seen the finale of 2.5 - Ready to start 3.0.

So what did you want to ask me?

(Spoilers up to 2.5 end in comments)

Can I just say....

NOT THE CAR!!!!!! AGAIN!!!!!

Pure cruelty I tell you.

So....

I've been really getting into BSG. I like the way the characters are shown by their actions, and by what they say. I love the tight frantic fast pace that gives you the touch of desperation that is the basis of the show.

And then there were the 3 STUPID (and one basically lame but not as god-awful) episodes.

Please, tell me I'm not the only one who thought these sucked?

Cut for those who don't care or don't want to be spoilered. [This is up to episode 18 season 2.5] )

I just hope it goes back to the kick-ass storytelling and awesome development that I loved. Although if Downloaded is any indication, we've passed the hiccup.

Oh, and somehow have to figure out how to get season 3.0, and then catch up to the current 3.5. *sigh* Tivo keeps getting more and more convenient. Damn all you people who got me hooked on all these shows!!!

*Somewhere around 6 months almost 7, actually, if the lungs are developed enough to survive with intensive care.

Computer's still down. In a situational comedy of near misses, relays and replays, I can't repair because I don't have the administrative password, which I think is on the computer. While it's backed up on my iPod, I can't look for the file at home because [livejournal.com profile] dthon doesn't have actual Outlook...But I just realized I have it here at work. Of course I may still not have it if it's from before I installed Outlook. *sigh* So either I find it, or I reformat and loose the few things I don't have backed up..maybe Sunday.

We have the clinic's open house this Saturday from 3-7, and I'm going to be working it as well. Which means that my Saturday is now all work related.

So it's been an insane blind run this week, and I'm hoping to catch up on sleep and sanity on Sunday. Computer probably won't be back up until after Sunday. Assuming next week is less crazy than this week.

And now for something deep, yet shallow, fun yet dry...

Baaa-Baaaa black sheep.... )

*Yawn* At this point the nightly BSG episode (and I'm on 2.5 so no spoiling please!) is the only relaxation.

1. Inaccurate Ancient History*
2. Misuse of Ancient Gods and their Religions*
3. Misinterpretation of Ancient History*
4. The overly frequent 'larvae' Goa'uld shots. *ICKY*
5. The overly reused "traveling through the Stargate" footage from the movie. Can we say motion sick? Yes we can.
6. Plots that actually follow continuity within a single story arc, much less across a season.

People tell me it gets better. I hope so as we're halfway through season one. I keep reminding myself that most Scifi shows do start out slow, and badly.

There have been a few shining, if brief moments, and the one thing you can count on is the snappy patter.

*and yes, I am taking into account aliens and the fact that it's fiction. It's still ridiculous in places. Lots of them.
