I'm not having a very good day today.

Five positions applied for. One is a position at a Vet Clinic and they already called. I'd really, really like to do that. I offered under my normal bottom line for pay, but even my less than bottom line may be too much for them. Gods, I hate job hunting.

I'm having a very mood swingy day. I've gone from crying and feeling betrayed by an editorial suggestion on yet another cover letter to yet another Admin job to hostile and pissed off at the world. I've pretty much settled to shaky, depressive and lonely. And I woke up in such a good mood.

I want to go out, I want to hide at home. I want to do something, I want to do nothing. The last thing I want to do is any other chores.

Bleagh. In other news...

Yesterday was so nice. The hubby got off early and we went to the dog park and had a lovely walk. It's funny how if you don't have a dog you get exactly the same suspicious looks you get when you are sitting near the kids play area without a kid. Can't wait until we can take Oba. Then went and caught X3 (yeah, well anyway.)

On the way out of the theater we bumped into a guy who was outside the martial arts school right there. He felt so nice. I kept talking to him. I wanted to ask, "Mind if I just bask in your very nice aura for a bit?" They are offering two free private lessons, complete with free "PJ's" as he joked. It's based mostly in Chinese Kenpo. He said they had a couple of Kajukenbo people from CA and they were comfortable with the transition. Then we touched on the various schools of Kajukenbo.

He also seems to agree that while Martial Arts is good for meditation and exercise - if you are in it for defense, flashy is no real help - and fair play has no place in a real fight. We seemed to share enough fundamental basics that I'm thinking a great deal about joining. Not to mention that lovely aura. *sigh* It's just comforting to be around, I had forgotten how much I like being around people who are ... it's hard to explain, but it's a feeling of home I miss. You can find it outside of martial arts, and not all people in martial arts have it. I loved my old Sifu, but he didn't have it - but his brown belt instructor did.

[livejournal.com profile] dthon who's never shown any interest in martial arts at all is even interested...

Anybody know anything about Chinese Kenpo?

That's really disturbing to think about.

Beastiality, anyone?

I really think it's more of a kidnap issue. Funny thought though. You made the hubby laugh out loud.

Cheep way to get a purebred dog.

Shelters won't give you one..so you take one..

Don't know. Happens though.

Chinese Kempo

Most of my years of martial arts training was in American Kenpo. According to our late senior grand master, Ed Parker, he learned Kenpo (with an "n") from his neighbor/best friend's father who was from Okinawa. Later, Mr. Parker "modernized" the system from the streets of 18th century Japan to 20th century USA. It's combination of "hard" and "soft" styles of martial arts. Hard styles typically take a "stand firm and take it head-on" stance, such as Tae Kwon Do. Soft styles are more like Aikido or Tai Chi, redirecting the attacks and staying out of the line of fire so to speak.

I imagine the Chinese Kempo is more along the lines of the Tracy Kempo, the system that Mr. Parker originally learned. If you take most all martial arts back to their roots, you'll find that they pretty much originated in China from the Shaolin monk Daruma.

I remember dthon once asked me where I learned to dance. Marial arts kata adapt very well to music! Of all the martial arts systems I have tried over the years, Kenpo is my number one choice.
