So....

I've been really getting into BSG. I like the way the characters are shown by their actions, and by what they say. I love the tight frantic fast pace that gives you the touch of desperation that is the basis of the show.

And then there were the 3 STUPID (and one basically lame but not as god-awful) episodes.

Please, tell me I'm not the only one who thought these sucked?

The 3 episodes of Black Market, Scar and Sacrifice were total crap. The Captain's Hand was a lame excuse of an episode so that Lee could become the commander of the Pegasus. It was better than the first three, but still very weak.

Then Downloaded explodes back into true form, and I am very impressed and excited again. Which is good, because I almost gave up after the sheer stupidity of Sacrifice.

Seriously

- Suddenly Lee has an ex-girlfriend who was pregnant who he left, who has been echoing in his mind and torturing him ever since (first we've seen of it, thanks) who then disappears, and never comes up again just so that he can be all traumatized and can defy the President, and give Tom his lead into the Black Market. (Also not something that has really come up before either...)

- Suddenly Starbuck is a drinking washed out has-been because "She can't live without her maaaaayyyyyyyaaaaaaaaannnnn" left on earth, and Kat ( all we know about her is she's a stim-junkie who learned to fly....ummm a couple of months ago?) is Miss Badass - who gets the "top gun" mug for fucking up the entire op. Um, OK whatever - sure she shot Scar. But only after falling for the decoy, losing her wing man, and then having Starbuck (in the damaged plane no less) do everything but shoot him for her. Screw Kat - she was a bitch for no real existing reason, and Starbucks' sudden emotional breakdown seems completely unbelievable. And then it goes away...

- Suddenly there is a secret movement to kill the Sharon cylon (with a background of fracking newspaper articles and pictures of the current Sharon Cylon) and yet this is the first the President and Adama have heard of anyone knowing that they have a cylon. Oh, and Lee and Dee have suddenly gone from "I don't know what you are talking about" to spending weekends together. (This is a relationship that ALSO came out of nowhere - and one I personally don't like...) Then in a stupid series of writing - Starbuck gets caught, and manages to shoot Lee "on accident" and that's the only shot she gets off, and the other three Marines only manage to shoot one, maybe two bad guys, while the other bad guys have time to shoot people AND reload! Not to mention the body shot to Lee (also possibly a lung and artery shot) which gets no medical attention for a half an hour of so and he lives, while Billy, with the single lung shot and immediate medical attention dies instantly. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! if you are going to do the "One boy lives, and the other dies while the girl who had to choose watches" could you at least make it believable? We knew that Billy would have to be the one to die - Lee's to critical to the plot, and he's the one who's (sadly) screwing Dee - so if it has to happen - could it be a shot that would instantly kill you? Like a head shot, or actually hit the heart? It's up higher, people. Or just a barrage of bullets.

I'd like to see what other people think of these episodes in particular. What, did a ghost writer come in and just not look at the previous scripts? This sudden flashback to the past sequences (and suddenly it's been months and months and months yet the baby is born early* in the next episode) and useless plot crap (Let's torture everyone! Then pretend it never happened!) was just a waste. Instead of killing time with filler crap - why not just cut to the birth?

One good thing - the Baltar in 6's head is HYSTERICAL and I loved every minute of it chomping popcorn, and clapping!! (First time I've really liked him actually) [livejournal.com profile] dthon thinks that Baltar might be the Cylon God. And that is one fucked up thought.

I just hope it goes back to the kick-ass storytelling and awesome development that I loved. Although if Downloaded is any indication, we've passed the hiccup.

Oh, and somehow have to figure out how to get season 3.0, and then catch up to the current 3.5. *sigh* Tivo keeps getting more and more convenient. Damn all you people who got me hooked on all these shows!!!

*Somewhere around 6 months almost 7, actually, if the lungs are developed enough to survive with intensive care.

So I've never liked it as much as others, though I still watch it -- there's something compelling about it even if I would BOMB SIX out of existance if I could -- and if Baltar doesn't STOP WHINING...

Anywho -- From all those hardcores that REALLY like it, I've been told that those eps were a blip and the new season is WONDERFUL again. Gotta admit, I'm enjoying the new season (NO WHINING) -- well not much -- so that says something for it :>.

Baltar as Cylon God -- OMFG -- that's the funniest thing I've heard ALL YEAR!!! And yea, I loved him in HER head as well. First time I didn't want to take him out for WHINING!!!

Writing seems to be back to "up to snuff" and that's a good thing. I'm loking the storylines better this season than the end of last season. I think you'll enjoy them :>.

Let me just say that those three/four episodes reminded me of a joke poem that someone wrote about Cam plots...In between each stanza was this -

And then the Sabbat attack...

And then they go away....

Good to know it's a blip. And other than Baltar's whining, I love the show.

*snerk* yea -- for me it's other than Six's idiocy and Baltar's whining -- but it's all tied in together and so far in season 3 she's been MUCH better :>

My theory, seriously, is that someone somewhere on the writing team suddenly was like "Hey, these people are living on the edge every day, have lost pretty much everything, and we should really have a couple of episodes where these characters are on the verge of suicide, cause that would be real." And then they wrote them.

Yeah, the show's one wobble from brilliance. But "Downloaded" was freaking awesome! How cool was that when Caprica Six downloaded and THEN THERE WAS BALTAR IN HER HEAD?? My jaw dropped, I swear, and that episode redeemed my flagging love in the show. And the new season? Better than anything they've done before. I'm going to skate the edge of spoilers here to tell you this much: Anders (Starbuck's man that she can't forget after a whole what, 3 months back on Caprica?) annoyed the CRAP out of me last season. I hated how quickly Starbuck fell for him and how utterly focused on him she became after all of five minutes of screen time together. I felt like he was nothing but a thinly veiled excuse to keep her and Lee at odds, and an all too obvious foil for Lee.

My opinion was not improved by the season finale, just FYI. HOWEVER. This season? We're what, four episodes in, and I LOVE ANDERS. He is not a cardboard cutout, nor merely an excuse to come between Kara and Lee this season, no, he rocks in his own right.

and really, I cannot tell you enough how much Season 3 rocks. It is really, really good. And it sounds like you're getting close enough to the end of S2 that I need to be popping some DVDs in the mail of S3, am I right?

*claps hands and dances madly*

Indeed we are. I think we only have 4 eps or so to go before we hit 3.0 (which we don't have...is that what's running, or are you guys on 3.5?)

I would totally love you forever if you sent me *any* BSG DVDs. Not that I don't love you now, mind. :)

I think the thing that bothered me the most about Anders wasn't the lack of screen time or anything it was the out-of-the-blue and the (and I almost never say shit like this) "girly dependent on her maayyyyyyaaaaannnn" crap that seemed to be the whole point of the episode. They kind of fixed it with the conversation with Helo, but not really.

Anyway, glad to know that it was a stupid mistake - and they've quickly moved on.

And Baltar in 6's head? Best thing all season!

Consider them in the mail! I know I have your snail addy in my e-mail. If I can't find it, I'll drop you a comment to have you e-mail it to me. Otherwise, eps 1-4 will go out tomorrow.

And nope, we're not even half through 3.0. :) Which means I'll be sending you DVDs fairly regularly.
